About this book
Being very frightened of going to the dentist or having a dental phobia, can feel very distressing. Avoiding dental treatment means missing out on essential care. It can mean suffering unnecessarily from toothache, or missing out on opportunities to have braces and straight teeth, with consequences that may last throughout life. This book is written for young people who want to understand more about their dental fear and how to overcome it. It is for people who need help over and above that which a sympathetic dentist could offer. It talks about a particular type of therapy called Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or CBT for short. CBT Is user-friendly and has been shown to be effective for many problems including phobias. It is widely used by psychologists and specially trained therapists. It should help both with facing going to the dentist and gradually accepting any dental treatment, which is needed.
